Imagine seeing 75 different brown bears, sometimes just a few yards away from you, in the most perfect bear wilderness. Our Katmai Bear Photo Tour exceeded my wildest dreams. Over the course of 6 days, we visited 3 very different locations that all had one thing in common: bears and lots of them. |

It seems crazy to be completely immersed with such an abundance of bears, but the brown bears in Katmai are unlike other bears. With a bountiful supply of salmon, and decades of benign interactions between humans and bears, these bears are much more habituated and tolerant than your typical bear. For the most part, they would just glance at us and then go about their business. There were so many moments that stood out, including a mama bear leaving her 4 spring cubs beside us as she fished on the other side, big males chasing down a bright red salmon in the shallow water, mama bears teaching their cubs to fish, and bears catching salmon as they leapt out of the water. |

So many special memories. Lots more photos and videos coming soon. The only downside was when my camera took an unintentional dive into the shallow creek below. Thankfully, I had a backup. More on this another time 🙂 In the next few weeks, I’ll be announcing my 2023 Katmai bear photo tour dates. Please let me know if you’re interested! |
